Music theory is a language and a fundamental knowledge requirement for becoming your own musician. It encompasses three general areas, the rudiments (learning Notation, Key Signatures, Scales, Rhythmic Patterns Harmony etc…) the study of ancient music writings and thirdly (Musicology) the study of the general processes and principles in music.
The study of music theory will equip you with the skills needed to read and write Western music notation and also most importantly assist you to understand and listen informedly to a music performance. At Play Piano music theory is taught in conjunction with the practical component. You will study to take in house theory exams specially designed for our school that sit along side our practical grade examinations or may be prepared to undertake external theory grade exams.
We also specialise in one to one and group based tuition that covers the complete Junior and Leaving Certificate Syllabus as well as offering grinds for entry into third level institutions.
