Mark Barry began taking piano lessons at Play Piano Swords in September 2004. Mark has been a student of the school since then and was asked by Gerry to become a piano tutor in the school in September 2011. After completing secondary school and achieving distinctions in all his piano grades Mark enrolled in Marino Institute of Education with the goal of studying Primary School Teaching and has now attained his B.Ed.
As well as performing on piano mark is an accomplished singer and guitar player. He regularly performs at various musical events and festivals around the country both as a soloist and as part of different bands. Some of the venues that he has played at include The Mansion House, The Helix, The Convention Centre and The Malahide Festival. In both secondary school and college Mark received awards for his contribution to Music. In 6th year in Malahide Community School he was voted Senior Music Student of the Year. In college he was voted by his peers as Marino institute of Education Music Student of the Year in 2014 and also won the annual Marino’s Got Talent competition in 2014.
Now in his 4th year of teaching at Play Piano Mark continues to enjoy it tremendously. Apart from teaching graded pieces Mark is keen on showing his students how to sing and accompany themselves on the piano which while keeping the class fun is also equipping the student with the tools to make their own way in the music trade should they decide to do so in the future.
